NaPoWriMo Day 17 Prompt for Wednesday, April 17, 2013 April 16, 2013

April 16, 2013

“Success is when persistence meets preparation.”
– Sherrilyn Kenyon

“Be shocking, be daring, be bold, be passionate.”
– Jane Porter

NaPoWriMo day 17 is almost here…without further adieu….

Prompt 17 Acrostic Poem The first letter of each line spells out a phrase…perhaps a quote you like, or a couple of words that works with the body of the poem or even ironically with the subject and themes of the poem. A couple of years ago I called out this prompt and wound up writing a double acrostic poem in which the first letter and the last letter of the line wound up creating two phrases. Not sure I’ll wind up writing one like that again… but please, be as much an over-achiever as you would like! Keep writing.

Prompt #15 was to write an opposite poem. A poem that embraces in some what the idea of opposite. Here’s what I wrote.

Hail to thee mighty Monsanto
By Christopher J. Jarmick

Thank you Monsanto for taking the time
to utilize due process, lawyers
and judges to bankrupt
free-loading fat farmers
who let your seeds grow
in their field without getting
permission from you or giving
you any financial compensation
after the birds and the wind
stole your patented seeds from
the authorized planters of your precious
commodity.

Thank you for fighting so many
hard, difficult unpopular battles
so that your family of corporations
can grow and remain profitable.
It is the American way.

Thank you for contributing
to the political process,
supporting candidates,
working closely with them
to keep yourself a strong
and vibrant job creator
as you alter the environment
and create new disease and pest resistant
food, as you develop bigger and tastier
fruits and vegetables
and create in laboratories
all sorts of wonders to make
sure no one goes hungry
and we have better tasting
and more nutritious things to eat.
Thank you,
Thank you,
Thank you.
