July 13, 2015  WedgeWood Alehouse Seattle 8 p.m.

From Philip Randolph

On Monday, July 13 I’ll (Philip) will be the featured poet at EasySpeak,

at the Wedgewood Alehouse. I’ll also ad-lib on my old cornet with the

house band (Jed, Ted, Rosanne, Bob, & me), and do my usual cornet

ad-lib ‘meditation’ to kick off the break.

–   –   –

Expect lightly sardonic twisted humor occasionally punctuated by

retrograde flirtations with seriousness. (An old radical once told me,

“Irishmen are most serious when they’re joking.”) I’ll read my classic

favorites, selected as highly intelligible and listenable. Why torture an

audience with obscurity? That’s for those sadist poets, and the

self-absorbed.

–  –  –

EasySpeak meets in the poolroom, around the building to the right.

‘Gud fude’ available.

July 22nd  C&P  West Seattle 7 p.m.

july 22, 2015    7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

–   –  –

Feature Reading by Rayn Roberts, locally & nationally known poet,

author of “Of One and Many Worlds” & “Jazz Cocktails and Soapbox

Songs” & several other books, widely published, seasoned reader &

performer, includes free open mic hosted by Cheryl Latif.

–   –  –

Rayn Roberts dangles figures on a small stage to share insights and

poke fun. Robert Frost & Charles Bukowski are partly responsible for

showing him how to do this, but there are other perpetrators too.

He’s not a poet but a puppeteer. All his puppets are in books to read

on rainy days, but don’t lend to your conservative relatives.

Their brains may short circuit.

–  –  –

Colleen Squier is a recent transplant to Sequim and The Storypeople

of Clallam County. Originally from Seattle, she served on the board

of the Seattle Storytellers guild for two years. Her family says that

she has been telling stories as long as she has been talking. About

six years ago, she decided that she wanted to learn to “really” tell

stories and took a class from Cherie Terbon at North Seattle College.

Since then she has shared stories at church, parties, and bookstore

story times. She appeared at Northwest Folklife for four years, and

treasures her genuine recycled trophy for placing third in the Liars

Contest. “Stories,” she says, “tell us who we were, who we are, and

who we will be.”

in which it can be lost. Since September 2013, Duane has hosted
