NaPoWriMo Day 10 Prompt for April 10, 2016

April 9, 2016

“Writing, the art of communicating thoughts

to the mind through the eye,

is the great invention of the world…

enabling us to converse with the dead, the absent, and the unborn,

at all distances of time and space.”

― Abraham Lincoln

DAY 10  – NaPoWriMo Prompt for  April 10, 2016

Welcome to Day 10 of the NaPoWriMo challenge.  Use these prompts to inspire you to write a poem each and every day of April.

Another prompt suggested by Striped Water Poet (of Auburn, WA.) Brendan McBreen:

Write a Triversen

A Triversen is a form developed based on William Carlos Williams’ poetry. Each stanza consists of a three line sentence, each line being a distinct clause or phrase in a sentence which combined is a complete sentence within the stanza. They can be six or more stanzas long. Sometimes they are typed by indenting the second line of each stanza and double indenting the third.

Here’s an example:

On Gay Wallpaper

by William Carlos Williams

The green-blue ground

is ruled with silver lines

to say the sun is shining.

And on this moral sea

of grass or dreams like flowers

or baskets of desires

Heaven knows what they are

between cerulean shapes”

laid regularly round.

Mat roses and tridentate

leaves of gold

threes, threes, and threes.

Three roses and three stems

the basket floating

standing in the horns of blue.

Repeated to the ceiling

to the windows

where the day

Blow in

the scalloped curtains to

the sound of rain.

For those living anywhere near Western Washington you might want to look at the new Poetry Day of the Week page that you’ll find in the upper right corner under PAGES.   A couple of times this month you may also find my Poetry Northwest announcements in between the NaPoWriMo posts.

If you post the poems on your blog or anywhere using this prompt… send me a link.

Enjoy!

Day 8 Prompt Poem (TV shows)

“We’re down to the wire on this

paper chase,” Lou Grant told his staff.

“To tell the truth is the name of the game.

So let’s make a deal, mash things up,

And run for your life, ‘cause we’ve got

a fugitive in double jeopardy out there

and the Smother’s Brothers L.A. Law folks

aren’t havin’ a laugh in about any of this.

They aren’t playing liars poker or joker’s wild

And they’ve got a secret but aren’t giving us the password

to make our voyage to the bottom of the sea any easier.

Captain Video there says we got 60 minutes to deadline, and all I can tell ya

my little ponies, is this is my world and welcome to it.
